Support local this Christmas

"We all thrive, when the collective thrives"

2020 has been pretty tough. For the majority lockdowns have resulted in reduced incomes and less spending and has put financial strain on many businesses worldwide. As always though, there is a silver lining... in that we have seen more and more people pushing #supportlocal and giving more thought to where and who they spend their money with.

For a while there as NZ entered a 4 week, level 4 lockdown, time stopped. No malls, shopping centres, events, dinner dates, work, business meetings etc.. we were given the opportunity to slow down and enjoy the things we don't always make or have time for.  For me, this time allowed me to look at my current lifestyle; what was working for us and what wasn't. When it came to consumerism I realised one. how much 'stuff' I already have and don't need and two. that so much of this 'stuff' was worthless and held no real value, with this realisation came the desire to be a lot more conscious with my spending.

So I thought with the silly season nearly upon us, that it would be a good time to talk about why supporting local matters and also share with you a few our favourite NZ businesses who are creating consciously.

So obviously supporting local businesses helps financially; in doing so, we boost our economy and encourage a resilient, healthy marketplace. But supporting local businesses also helps to bring character, innovation and creativity to our cities and communities, these businesses contribute to our individuality as a country.

Local makers bring their personal experiences, skills and original ideas to their products. Goods and services are thought out, created with care and more often than not, made with quality materials.

Care is put into not just their products but their customer service; which is often personalised. These are your neighbours, friends and families, people putting everything they have into seeing their dreams become reality.

And lastly what goes around, comes around. Local businesses support local charities, sports teams and events. They support community wellbeing and help create jobs and local prosperity.
